Set of four polychrome woodcut silhouettes representing angels carrying the instruments of the Passion.
The Passion of Christ is the series of sufferings and tortures that preceded and accompanied the death of Jesus of Nazareth, known as the Christ. The story of the Passion, as well as the foreshadowings of the Passion, are recounted in the New Testament of the Bible, particularly the Gospels, as well as in various apocryphal texts. The instruments or objects surrounding the Passion are often depicted by artists. Our angels hold, among other things, nails, pincers, the centurion’s spear, the sponge soaked in vinegar on the end of a hyssop branch, the flagellation column, the cord and the thirty silver coins of Judas, the cup of bitter drink, and the chalice.
Probably from a church, a chapel, or a nativity scene.
