“Portrait of Thérèsa Cabarrus” (1773-1835), known as Madame Tallien and princess of Chimay.
Oil on panel (with an ancient pen mark on the back) with Art Nouveau gilted bronze frame.
Thérèsa Cabarrus can be recognized by her anemone crown (French painter Gérard represented her this way). Although she was well known as a Revolutionary muse, she eventually married prince of Chimay, fervent monarchist under the French Restauration (1815-1848).
