“Desvres Earthenware Birdcage, Fourmaintraux, Moustiers Decor, Late 19th Century, Scent Cage”

This beautiful Desvres earthenware birdcage, known as a scent cage, originally housed a bird modeled from scented ointment. Rectangular in shape, it features polychrome floral and scrollwork decorations accented with combed edges.
Dating from the late 19th century, it is a reproduction of model no. 1326 from the Fourmaintraux factory in Desvres, with an 18th-century Moustiers decor after Joseph Fouque. Within the museum “In the Belle Époque of Desvres Earthenware,” there is an example of the rectangular model no. 1326.
