Chest of drawers in polychrome carved wood opening onto two drawers decorated with a Japanese decoration inspired in particular by the motifs of Kakiémon porcelain, renowned for its delicate and colorful representations of natural elements, such as birds and flowers, emblematic of Japanese art, handles in shape of falling pompoms perfectly complement the refined and exotic style of the furniture. The inside of the drawers is covered with green felt.
In the 18th century, the fashion for Chinoiserie was particularly popular at European courts. Inspired by precious imports from China and Japan, this aesthetic allowed nobles to escape into an imaginary world filled with pagodas, exotic gardens and oriental landscapes.
Venice, a prosperous trading port, enthusiastically adopted this style which became a symbol of luxury and refinement.
