Marotte, 19th century

Marotte in polychrome wallpaper and glued printed paper, presenting a female figure with black hair and scalloped bodice.

The marottes appear in the second half of the eighteenth century and were used as supports for the caps when they were not worn. The shape of the marotte taking again that of a real head, the headdress remained well ironed and well in shape; thus, the milliners and the ironers of headdresses frequently used the marottes in their work.
